SBpunk
So don't know anything about relays/switch or electrical in general. Got a couple free pod LED lights to go on my roll bar. Trying to figure out how to wire them and wondering if the factory fog light switch would be enough to handle it? Sorry I don't have anymore info on the lights they were pretty much handed to me because I was in the right place at the right time kind of thing. Thanks
HOrnbrod
Are the LED pod lights new? You have to know the total amp draw for the lights to determine if you need to put them on a relay or not. If new it will tell you on the box. If not, a quick way of doing this is to hook up your LED lights to a battery charger with an ammeter, turn them on, and look at the ammeter. Or do the same thing with a multimeter using the ammeter function and a battery. If the total amp draw is less than 5A you can get away with just using a dash switch and 12AWG wire. If over 5A, you should put them on a relay.
SBpunk
Nope theyre used. Trying to find something like them but I'll just play it safe and use a relay and AUX fuse box so I have something to run my OBA down the road. I'm not sure what the factory switch is rated at which is my biggest concern. Trying to avoid a fire. I'm planning on picking up these relays and box. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QMTAZ1W/ref=pd_luc_rh_bxgy_01_02_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&dpSrc=huc&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpID=51UG0KP8TNL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QMTAZ1W/ref=pd_luc_rh_bxgy_01_02_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&dpSrc=huc&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpID=51UG0KP8TNL
HOrnbrod
Pretty sure the dash switches are rated at 12A. But it's always good to put the load on a relay. For the $$, that's a decent aux fuse box you linked to. I'd just use some standard 30A Bosch-type automotive relays.

I have one on my other Jeep and it really cleaned up my battery post. I can snap a pic some time, if you want.

Guessing the power hooks up to the box itself and the devices just ground themselves either on the body or at the battery?
Knucklehead97
I believe I ran 8AWG wire to it. I ordered 3ft of the wire from a dealer on Ebay and he added the correct size ring terminals for 50 cents more after I messaged him asking about it. It was about $3.50 shipped for the wire and terminals. It has my pod LED's and the 2 wires for my Putco(what was I thinking when I was 16...) H4 headlight harness running to it. The red wire connected straight to the terminal (non-fused) is my stereos 12V constant. I used a dab of sealant around each of the 4 screws because you will be drilling through the firewall and possible causing leaks if not sealed properly (if you place your fuse block in the same place I did. As you can see, I added a small relay center beside the fuse block. And yes, ground them to the chassis of the Jeep. I try to keep my battery posts as clean and wireless as possible. It's a pet peeve of mine. I will be doing this same set up, but cleaner and more professional, on my new MJ. The one pictured is on my other one which I'm not as strict about. Hope this helped :D
SBpunk
Looks good. I might do the same for my stereo. It stopped getting power to the 12v constant awhile back so I tapped into the constant for the factory clock which I want to actually use one of these days. I'd have a CB, PA, Lights and down the road that ARB dual compressor hook into the actual terminal. Unfortunately the piece you have the box screwed into is completely cut out on mine because the PO decided to do a cowl induction snorkel (think it was his son that did it) so I might need to weld a piece of metal back on. Either way I'll find a good spot for it. Thanks for the pics! Just waiting on my new battery cables to come in then the motor is getting rebuilt. After that I need to start knocking out the little things like this and clean up the engine bay of wires and broken hoses.
Knucklehead97
Sounds good! I'm going to be working on cleaning up hoses next after I finish my WJ booster. Going to a 97+ valve cover and deleting a few hoses with a custom cowl intake (or just a cone, not sure yet) also going to brake line instead of vacuum line. Best of luck!
