I suspect you're taking about the panel of warning lights on the left, and the blank under the clock on the right? Never heard anything called "sigma six".

The one on the left has stuff like the 4x4 lights, check engine, emissions maintenance reminder, and a couple others that slip my mind.

The one on the right has the clock. That's it. Unless you have the somewhat rare fluid sentinel (or whatever it's called) in which case it has fluid level warning lights for all of them.

Yeah, the Useless Nothing Panel  just to the right of the gauges is where the clock would go. A lot of people cut that panel out for switches or extra gauges.

Assuming of course you're talking about this? I have no idea what a Sigma Six display is either. If you don't have a clock or the really, really, REALLY rare fluid sentinel which I strongly doubt you have it's just a piece of plastic.

You have an '86, which is pretty much a unique animal. Your transfer case could be one of two, and for the MJ those two were used ONLY in 1986. Do you have Command-Trac or Selec-Trac? You're saying the light doesn't come on when 4WD is engaged, but the whole purpose of the light is to tell you when 4WD is engaged. If the light isn't coming on -- are you certain the light is the problem? How have you verified that 4WD has really engaged?

BTW -- your photo of the right side panel seems to show a clock. You might want to reconsider drilling holes in it -- you might destroy the clock circuit board (I'm not sure how much space it uses internally). You have a full gauge cluster -- what other gauges do you want?

how do i determine if i have a Command-Trac or a Selec-Trac ?

is there a pic of something that i can take to show you guys?

and i don't really want any more gauges but i would like more buttons

i don't really care for the quartz clock i can always put in a new LED clock

Flip down the driver's side sun visor. There should be a sticker on the top that tells you which transfer case you have.

If not, post a photo of your center console, showing the shifters.

If you don't mind getting dirty, there should be a round tag on the transfer case itself. It'll have a model number on it. You're looking for NP207, NP228, or NP 229.

also when you shift your tranny from park to drive does it jump thew the different gears (P.R.N.D.) easy

or does yours actually take some effort to shift down and up

i feel like mine shifts way to easy

Looks like you have Command-Trac, which is the basic 4WD system. That would be an NP207 transfer case.

In 1986, both the Command-Trac and Selec-Trac systems used a vacuum disconnect on the front axle, to disengage the front drive shaft from the wheels in 2WD. There's a vacuum harness that activates the shift motor, which is on the passenger side axle tube. If that vacuum harness has a vacuum leak, (1) you won't get 4WD even with the shift lever in 4WD, and (2) the light won't come on because the switch is operated by vacuum.

ok i looked at the front axle and this was the only thing i saw that looked questionable

this is located under the passenger side of the front axle

not sure where on the front axle to look for the vacuum disconnect

could anyone tell me if its on top or left or right side?

Thats the ticket....you should have a vac line connected to that "pod" on the axle....the line should run back behind the motor (top of the tcase)

Is that not a broken line right there in the second pic?

ok so this thing is basically some sort of control valve

and these are the lines that where disconnected by the previous owner

not sure how to correctly reconnect them in the right order but there are 3 of them

and I'm not sure what this thing is for but i saw it down there with the other rubber lines

here is the view of those lines from the top of the truck under the hood on the passenger side

same lines under the blower

Is there anyone that knows how i should correctly reconnect those lines

they are little rubber hoses they can be reconnected I'm just not sure in what order

or if you can take a pic of yours and i will just copy mine to match yours
