dasbulliwagen
Did I read on here somewhere that someone used a 4.0 timing gear in their 2.5? I'm trying to verify it but have been unable to find anything. The 4.0 timing sets seem to be cheaper than ones listed for the 2.5. There seems to be a lot of that around. Maybe because nobody is stupid enough to build a 2.5 Like me? Thanks for the help. I tried search but came up empty.
HOrnbrod
In checking p/n's for the gear set and timing chain, they are different for the 2.5 and 4.0 engines. I don't know what the difference is though. :dunno:
Eagle
The gears and chain should be the same, from what I've seen. For reasons known only to some AMC engineers who may be long dead, the deck height on the 2.5L is just a bit less than on the 4.0L, so a timing chain that would be taut in a 4.0L is slack in a 2.5L. So for the 2.5L they used a tensioner inside the timing cover. It's not uncommon for the tensioner to wear out before the chain.
