I've been driving this truck daily and we haven't really bonded just yet. It has been used a number of times as a work truck so for that I'm grateful. Can't help but think of long term plans for it though. I really don't know what to think of it right now... having another isn't an answer right now. :dunno: I'm buying Bo's truck. And will be getting it from him first of next year. Since pictures are down, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions about your build. neohic Posted December 24, 2017 Author Share Posted December 24, 2017 Update time! I've been kind of daily driving this truck for a few months now. Being that we moved up the mountain but I still work down in Colorado Springs, my wife and I have been car pooling. Fridays I'm all by myself though so I go ripping down in this thing! Haven't really done much with it since it was built besides rebuilding the rear axle. I knew it was bad when I was in the process of playing musical parts. After driving it for a while, I quickly decided that the locker in the rear had to go. It was awesome in the Cherokee!... not so much without all the weight over the axle. We had a factory limited slip on the shelf at work so that got thrown in. New bearings, seals, the LSD, gears... this axle is completely new. Buddy of mine back in Minnesota wants to try and do an overland trip out here next summer. Been thinking a ton about setting this thing up for that along with the Comansion trailer. Another trip it'll probably see is a Colorado Springs to Moab with no pavement which is also being planned for next summer. Stay tuned for much more to come. Trying to sell really comes down to needing some funding to build a new shop, I’ve never really had “that moment” with it that would make me hesitate selling it, and my wife has never been all that crazy about it either. Not that she completely dictates what vehicles I have, but it sure does take all the fun out of it when your other half isn’t interested either. It'll be okay. I promise! Once I’ve got a permanent home for my ‘88 and I can be driving it/updating the thread the stars will realign. Until then, change needs to happen and the ‘86 will be replaces with another Jeep. Quite quickly, actually! I’ve been doing nothing but downsizing and simplifying my lifestyle for the last couples years. I’ve downsized my fleet considerably and now I have the opportunity to downsize a Jeep. Had my eye on its replacement for months now. Stay tuned. Kinda hard but I’m moving on to bigger things. This just means that my future shop will get some fancy name along the lines of “The Jim Oshel Facility for Manufacturing Sciences and Tomfoolery”. The J.O.E has taken a few trails. Rolled over Redcone Pass with no sweat. Ripped up bill more lake, twice once with snow once dry. Sad to say that very soon after buying the truck I became a city slicker with no garage and less free time. It started with fixing some rust spots on the floor. (I don't have pictures of the final welds, they are secure consistent beads but far from what I would consider good looking or even welds to be proud of) Since the dash the roll-bar and the seats were out, and the noise level on the highway made me cringe I sprung for a giant thing of dynamt/dynaliner/dynapad. FenderBender Posted June 5, 2019 Share Posted June 5, 2019 I did a brake job around the same time, Resurfaced rotors and some sticky EBC pads, nuttin fancy just wanted a little better stopping. While I was under there I discovered something, a broken control arm mount. I really over thought the repair, I considered trussing the whole thing, swapping with a dana 44, I thought about welding the old arm back in place, I ended up buying the part online and having a pro weld it while it was sitting on an alignment machine.
