buckwheat
The PO managed to install flip forward seats (Like the ones from a 2 door XJ). However, he did it in a unique way. Now my question is: What can I salvage; and how can I salvage this? I really want working sliders on my seats. Not to mention having everything secured with metal instead of drilled out wood. Here are the photos:
yellaheep
This would be a piece of cake with some '94 and earlier XJ front seats and slider assemblies......... IF your floor brackets on those modified seats were whole. Those appear to be the floor brackets from a bench seat that had been in place prior to the modified seats. Unfortunately, only 3 of the 4 of those brackets are ok, one was hacked up (looks like the front bracket on the passenger seat......?) All you'd have had to do was bolt those brackets in place of the XJ floor brackets and put the seats in. So, with that said...... you need replacement floor brackets, or at least one front bracket from a bench seat. Question still needs asked - what kind of seats do you want to put in? Looks like you may have a partial or full late model interior swap going on in this truck? If you're wanting to mount late model seats in then you're still talking quite a bit of fabrication to make the seats work with good, solid metal sliders and floor brackets. Do some thread searching about installing bucket seats here on the forum, do some googling and see what kind of photos there are out there of other folks fab ups. DirtyComanche
I'm just here to say how the PO did that is really, really, really, unique. Okay, actually, the good news is that the partial piece of the seat bracket is the MJ specific bit. Or so I believe, I might be seeing it wrong. Anyways, I'm thinking you could get a regular early XJ bracket, cut it up, and graft the missing half onto it. Unless you can find the actual MJ bracket somewhere. That's also assuming there is still something on the floor to attach the bracket to, and nothing else on the floor has been modified. I would recommend welding the bracket together if you do try to piece it together with an XJ one, if you do not have the means a shop should be able to do it for very little money. buckwheat
I want to go with seats just like my current ones. Only in better condition and with sliders/ metal fasteners. So 94 and down flip forward bucket seats. I still have all the mounting points on the floor, so no worries there. And its good to know that the front seat bracket was cut in half. I thought there should be more there. . . So if I can graft the one cut bracket back together, everything else looks fine? I should be able to cut the brackets off of XJ seats and weld/ bolt my brackets on and be good to go?
DirtyComanche
Yeah, the factory riveted the seat brackets to the sliders/seat frame, so just drill them out and bolt the MJ brackets on. I think everything will become quite obvious once you find a set of good XJ seats to compare the brackets you have with.
