90comancheswb
Looking for a supplier for a CPS pigtail for a 92 4.0 (prefer new)
HOrnbrod
Do you mean the round 3 male pin connector from the sensor body than plugs into the engine harness? Or the female connector end on the engine harness? You can't buy one separately, but you can get the complete 91-92 CPS on Ebay for ~$10 and cut/splice it on whatever you're trying to do. 90comancheswb
I apologize for not being clear on the post. Need the female end on the wiring harness.
DirtyComanche
That might be a wrecker part... Pretty weird connector, I'm guessing it's proprietary/dealer only at best.
90comancheswb
Not able to go to a yard anytime soon. Does anyone have a spare from a 91 or 92 that they are willing to part with?
Rockfrog
Well, because it's a 3 wire plug ... One could always change the entire connector to a commonly available 3 wire weatherpack connector. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk

It's a better connector with less voltage drop than the round factory connector. These connectors were only used in 91-92 and then changed to a weatherpack type connector. gogmorgo
^that should work just fine. Or you could just upgrade to the newer harness's connector and use the newer cps. When I swapped the '93 engine and trans into my '91, it didn't occur to me that the cps connector was different, and I just left the cps installed. Then when I went to plug the '93 CPS into the '91 harness, the two didn't match up. I couldn't figure out how to get tools onto the CPS once everything was installed, so I just swapped the connectors and it worked great. I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which connector I used, but obviously t worked. I think I also only had to match wire colours as well. Minuit
The issue with swapping to a Weatherpack connector is unless you find a pre-pinned connector (or one cut out of a junkyard vehicle) you'll need special tools to pin the connector up, namely an open barrel terminal crimper that can handle Weatherpack contacts. The contacts have little gaskets crimped on to them so not any crimper will work. If you find a connector with the pins already installed it's of course just a matter of splicing it in. I don't know if you can get a pre-pinned connector from a parts store, but if you can it would be stupidly overpriced. Your best bet would be to see if someone on here can cut you one out of a 91 or 92 vehicle so you can just splice it into your wiring harness. I just ordered the below to replace the stupid non-locking connectors the 91's and 92's come with. Been planning on doing this for some time - OP, thanks for the reminder. You can have my old one when I get it soldered in. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-x-Set-Female-and-Male-Connector-Plug-3-way-3-pin-WeatherPack-Electrical-Wire-/252337300873?hash=item3ac079a589:g:OtEAAOSwgQ9VtPg7&vxp=mtr

You can crimp them with a normal open barrel crimper if you know what you're doing... I rewired my entire plow truck from scratch doing that. However, if I'm ever to do that with another vehicle I'll buy the damn crimper, just to save time.

HOrnbrod
i don't use those places unless it's an emergency. Edit: $6.99 OBO. The Ebay seller accepts considerably less.
DirtyComanche
i don't use those places unless it's an emergency. Yup. Order online ahead of time for all scheduled maintenance. Better service, better price, and nobody asking me why every part I need is from a different year/make/model.

My normal crimper advertises it can do Weatherpack terminals as well and I didn't intend my post to come across as "you can't do this unless you buy the actual Weatherpack tool" - I'm sure any open barrel crimping tool will get the job done, just that it may only do it 90% as well as the genuine tool. i don't use those places unless it's an emergency. And my link is a prime example of why the only automotive things I buy at a brick & mortar store are usually at the junkyard. Looking through online catalogs is half the fun anyway. If I do need anything from a parts store I just write down a list of part numbers beforehand. The less trust you place in the lookup system and the counter monkeys Professional Parts People the better. The only reason I posted that link was to warn the OP if he went looking for one at a parts store and in retropect I probably should've just said to look on Ebay. Rockfrog
I usually buy the base parts of the connectors (M/F terminals, seals) and reuse the bodies from my plethora of old wiring harnesses. The terminals and seals (and bodies) are readily available at Napa and such, for relatively decent cost, a 3 pin M/F package was about $25 CDN, so about $5 US I imagine nowadays.
