Jtrux
Does anyone have an idea of what temp the idiot light comes on at? Also, what temp is the factory thermostat set at? I'll be rehabing the cooling system in my MJ soon and want to make sure I get the correct one. I've been driving my MJ daily since getting it running after it sat for 15 years and going through each individual system as required. Well, the light came on today on the way to work so I backed off and it turned off. I typically do 60-65 but was pushing it to 70-75 to see how she would handle it. She didn't agree so that tells me that the next thing I need to do is give the system a good flush and go through it all real well.
Eagle
The factory thermostat is a 195-degree unit. Not certain, but I think the idiot light comes on at 260 degrees. (Might be 240.)
airspeed
I have both the light and a set of Stewart-Warner gauges. My water temp reads 230F when the light comes on. Note: I have the 2.5l.
Jtrux
I should have included that mine is a 2.5. 260 is scary. 230 is a good warning. I hope it is 230. I should get a set of gauges but I'm really resisting changing anything about it.
Eagle
I can't find a spec for the switching temperature for the coolant idiot light in any of my tech manuals. What I did find is that the aux fan is supposed to kick on at 223 degrees, and shut off at 207 degrees. So 223 should NOT trigger a warning light, but I'd guess they don't want it to get much beyond that. So 230 or maybe 240, tops.
Jtrux
Thank you for looking into that. For now I will assume that is I'm the 230ish range.
