Steve Gregory
Does anyone know where to get a washer fluid pump with a sensor? i looked online at Autozone's website but it doesn't say if it has the sensor or not. I want the sensor so i can have the light turn on when it's low. I know I can tell its low by the amount it sprays, but i like things to work correctly. Also, besides from adding the light to the gauge custer, what else do i nee? i noticed three different connectors for washer fluid pumps next to the one that's plugged in
HOrnbrod
The pump doesn't have the float sensor, the washer tank does. Since you don't mention what model you have, I can't tell you where to order the tank. Or you can get one at the junkyard from a well equipped similar year XJ; Autozone won't have it. Your truck is already wired for it, mine was, and the fluid level sensor just plugs into the existing wiring, just match the connector. The low level light was already in my cluster and it works fine. HERE'S one on Ebay, fits 87-91 XJ/MJ washer tanks. You'll need to cut a hole for it. schardein
If I remember right, there are later model ones that look the same but use a weatherproof style connector. I believe I've seen these on XJs (92+ with the water bottle on the pass side). You still have to cut the hole, and be sure to get the connector if sourcing from a junkyard. Also a good idea to take an electrical meter and test the sensor before buying, as I've had them go bad (hence my search for a replacement). You can splice the connector onto your wires. If you have converted to an open system, and removed the coolant bottle, you can use the later model washer on the pass side. It is more work because you have to extend your wires and tube, but it leaves more room for a dual diaphragm brake conversion. Or, do as Hornbrod did and use the 96+ style that mounts in the driver fender. It also has a level sensor.
schardein
Or, just realized I have an extra factory one. Could sell it $15 plus shipping? Local picnpull charges $10.79.
ScottJeep
Hmmmmm not to jump too far into the OP issue. What/how is the sensor tested?

HOrnbrod
Hmmmmm not to jump too far into the OP issue. What/how is the sensor tested? It's a simple float switch. A float in the tube rides on the fluid level. The switch arm is attached to the float. When the fluid level drops down, it "makes" the switch, and turns on the low level lamp. Just like the gas gauge "out of fuel" lamp.
ScottJeep
Thanks Don makes perfect sense. Tend to overthink stuff like that after dealing with technology for other people all day. Need to test the ones in my parts bin.
