JeepsOLot
Well, if we could get a 4.0, AW4, and 242 all attached out of an XJ, a 2.5 with everything attached shouldn't be a problem. Image Not Found Jerry

87Chief
Where do yall usually put your chains while getting everything out?
JeepsOLot
Been a while, but, I think we used head bolts on the engine, since we had the head off, and around the trans.
gogmorgo
Fun fact, the nuts for the motor mount bolts screw onto the head studs and are perfect for securing a chain to the engine.
JeepsOLot
That's what I did when I pulled the 4.0/AW4 out of the parts MJ.
airspeed
It looks like I will have to pull the whole assembly with the gear shifter attached. I remember a long time ago when I was assembling it back together I didn't have a gasket for the shifter top plate. I thought to myself I will just put some RTV in here and stick it back together. Well let me tell you, I stuck it together real good, It will not come apart now... I can put a 3' pry bar in there, it won't budge, I'm afraid I will break the transmission mount from prying on it so hard! There is no access to wedge something in-between the two parts. With the truck sitting on the ground I should have 2" to spare to clear the shifter under the body. Once I have it on the ground I should be able to drive something under the plate and break it loose.
88whitemanche
Fast forward to 1:55 and that'll be the easiest way to remove the shifter.... It shows on a wrangler but I've done on both my ax5 and ax15 transmissions

For me changing the bushing and seal is the easy part, getting the cane apart to change that first little boot :fs1:
88whitemanche
I didn't take out the cane...I took it out together... Push down get some leverage and twist
