Recommended Posts

the title says it all. Is this actually possible? i know i would have to remove the small triangle glass and bar to do so but thats what i am after. will the glass seal up and have a leak proof fit? i can not find manual roll up windows and don't want electric. any help is much appreciated

I've been considering this exact project.

Why not swap doors?

Because (as I understand it) you are pretty well stuck with the late interior panel; I can't speak for the OP but I don't want to mismatch the interior like that or deal with the early glovebox door that won't fully open against the late door panel arm rest / grab handle thingeys.

I've also heard multiple accounts of folks realizing that it isn't as easy a swap as it may appear.   :dunno:

A-man930:

I have swapped the 97+ doors. Since they are manual windows they do not have the bulky armrest on them. No interference at all with the glove box or anything else. And in my opinion (besides mis-matched colors) they fit right in with the interior.

IMHO it was a straight forward swap and ended up with a nice result.

But its not my truck. OP, if you do end up modifying the current doors, please post it here. I would love to see the results and how you went about doing it.

The interior panel has been one of my hangups the 97+ doors.

I have wondered if it was practical/possible to graft the early interior sheet metal onto the late door.  That would allow use of my current great looking interior panel on a one piece window.  Since I have power windows and door locks now, I would not have to worry about the windows.  Not sure about the door handles, but they may be a small problem on the 97 door latch.  So I would suggest you buy a 97+ door and an early door to experiment and learn with also.

Looking forward to hearing what you learn.

You can use the original door and regulator with the new glass. Need to make a 6x2 adapter plate to mount the window to the original regulator. I've done it.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING THIS WHOLE TIME?!
