Bonkers
A friend on mine has a D44/3.55 and an AMC20/4.10 (Both factory Mj axles) sitting in his back yard. He recently told me hes looking to sell the D44 and cut the Amc20 for his Xj build. Well, after the nitro pills took effect, i decided to make him an offer on either/or axle. I have a 2wd 5spd that i do ALOT of highway driving with, so my concern with either is that ill have to regear it. I know the D44 is easier/ Cheaper to work with, but the 20 is rarer. My question: are either of these axles worth it for me, and if so whats a good price to offer? Its for a friend so I'm not looking to run the guy into the ground like i usually try to do. What are your thoughts?
yxmj
My vote is for the
88whitemanche
Man at least you get a choice of the 2 best axle options...id go for the amc 20 for the 4.10 gears... I picked mine up from the Jy for $140... But for a 5speed on stock tires 3.55 is always better than 3.07s...
johnj92131
Highway driving with a 5 speed? The 3.55 gearing. Automatic? 4.10 AMC 20. But even with the 5 speed, the 4.10 could work very well. Especially to tow something every now and then. Me, buy them both and decide which one later. What are you running now and why are you looking to change? Bonkers
I'm running a stock D35/3.07, but my plan in the future is a 4.6 Stroker. I'm sure for road use the D35 will be fine, but its one of those situations where its availible so why not...
HOrnbrod
Get 'em both if the prices are reasonable, then flip the one you don't use when you're finished with whatever you are building. Think of it as an investment. These MJ specific axles only get more more desirable (and expensive) as time goes on.
Eagle
I dunno about more expensive. Ten or twelve years ago XJ and MJ D44s were selling for $500 to $600 and people were falling over one another to pay those prices. Since the 8.25" and 8.8" swaps have become more common, the bottom has fallen out of the D44 market.
