mr4x4
Ive got the dana 30 in the front with the vacumm disconect. I want to get rid of the disconect. I know I could get the kit for it but can't I use some none disconect axle shafts and just remove the vacumm disconect and plug off the hole. If not tell me why. (I need to change axle seals cause the right tube has a leak so i thought I would fix two birds with one stone.) http://community.webshots.com/user/comanchejeep
pingpong
If you have to replace that seal all ready, then there is no reason why you can't do wht you described. Or you can just place seal CR13165 in the outer portion of the vacum tube housing and use a 1 piece shaft on that side. Patrick
mjeff87
I swapped a disco '30 into mine when I converted it, only because that was the only thing I could find at the time. I just shimmed over the shift fork with some washers and locked the inner/outer together full time. cost= $0.00  If I ever decide to lock the front, I'll just undo the shims and rig up a homebrew posi-lock, either cable or vaccuum actuated (I've got a vac switch ready to use, just haven't gotten to it yet:)) Something to think about if you ever plan to lock yours, unless you gots the $$$ for a selectable (?) But, as Patrick says, you can swap a one piece shaft in and add a seal if you want to. Might even want to look for later model shafts with the larger joints in 'em, too.... mr4x4
thanxs for your input. I was wondering what ather people have done. I checked with randys ring and pinion for prices and came up with $30 dollers to get rid of the diconect and $130 with the new axles with dana44 ujoints and $120 for the left side thats inner and outer axle shafts. Or $1,450 for the arb the compresser and alloy 30 splined axles shafts inner and outer and every thing to put it to gether the (super 30) or I can save about $200 for the super30 with OX locker. mabe june or july I can get it ill post pics of the install

Pete M
90 was the first year for XJ ABS. Seems a shame to buy a whole axle shaft and not get a better joint when the washer trick seems to work just fine for bypassing the CAD. Keep an eye on the 'yard and pounce on the first ABS XJ you see! It's only a matter of time... Jeep on! --Pete

pingpong
The washer trick works, but I don't know of any one who carries a spare 2 piece shaft in case you break a u-joing or worse yet the short side of the 2 piece ( I have never seen it happen, but I have seen the joint bust. Talk about a PITA to change on the trail.) Also on some of the SYE's there is no provision for the VD hoses, thats why I ended up doing mine. Found a helluva a deal on a used SYE, but had no vacumm provision, so Instead of doing the washers, or a home made Posilock, I swapped shafts.
