starting problem??

Recommended Posts

I went out to start the truck for work and she cranked over but wouldn't start...(always starts right up) so i tried again and again and she won't start not even a sputter. I've pulled plug wires and got a spark when cranking and there is fuel pressure when cranking (shoots a stream out of the relief valve when depressed)...but with the ign on when i depress the relief valve i only get a small squirt and then no more pressure (i would think it should still be pressurized as the ign switch is still on).....I also gave her several shots either but still she hasn't fired once.......

So i'm looking for any ideas on what i've missed or what to try next

thanks

how is your prime? there is a topic here I just can't find it right now talking about it. Turn on your key and listen for clicks, repeat a couple times and then try to start it. If it cranks over easly then it could be a fule pump.

yes i hear the fuel pump run while it is turning over and with a remote starter i can depress the relief valve while it is turning over and there is a strong stream of gas. but it seems like when i stop cranking it over then the only pressure in the fuel manifold is relief pressure no more than just a spurt.......should it still be under pressure and pumping if the ignition switch is still on??

also battery is brand new and strong ..it cranking over at normal starting speed

You shoulda gotten something with the ether...little sputter or pop, or even a slight rise in the RPM's from cranking speed.

You sure you have ignition spark? Did you check a plug wire, or the coil wire when you tested? If you have juice from the coil, your rotor might have gone bad and you're not getting it to the plugs.

Maybe try unplugging/replugging the CPS just for kicks and see what happens...

After it has sat for awhile (or after you bleed down the fuel pressure with the Schraeder valve) you should hear the fuel pump run for 5 to 10 seconds when you first turn on the ignition, BEFORE you start to crank. If not, the ballast resistor is probably bad. The good news is ... it isn't really necessary, so for diagnosis purposes you can simply bypass it (jumper the two contacts).

No spark, however, suggests that possibly the CPS has decided to go south for the winter.

yea....she's running.......cap,rotor,plugs none where great so i replaced all, still wouldn't start, unpluged and repluged the cps still no start, still seems like no gas so i pulled the schraeder valve on the fuel rail and put a hose on it and cranked the engine over figuring i'd pump some gas out and check it....instead she fired right up to run then sputtered and died so i repeated this a couple of times(pumped out about a gal of fuel which is clean) deceided what the hell..and put the schraeder insert back in and she starts right up and runs............Yea...i'm just not really sure what was the exact culpert...........the only other possibility is she was mad at me cause i banged her around at Haspin and deceided to take a week off and have me buy her some new stuff...........

THANKS ALL!!
