Eagle
wheeling off road only see if u can find a set of 522 lol Unless something has changed recently, the highest (numerical) ratio you can get for the Dana 30 front axle is 4.88 -- and that's only available from aftermarket gear makers, not from Dana-Spicer. Beyond that, the pinion gets too small to be useful.

What size tires do you plan to run? IMHO, if you want more balls than the 4.0L offers you need more than gears -- you need an LT1.
Corey352
I just want to run 33's but my truck is already real sluggish with the 31's i got. I was thinking if one day dropping a 4bt in it
dasbulliwagen
A 4BT is cool but super expensive to build. Just keep that in mind. Everything I've ever read about the says a minimum of $10,000 to build one properly.
88ComancheMitch
If you rant anything besides a 4.0 on your mj then sbc its probably the most, and only, reasonable swap. If you want more power go with something besides an mj...
Pete M
I just want to run 33's but my truck is already real sluggish with the 31's i got. I was thinking if one day dropping a 4bt in it auto or manual? although, admittedly if I was paying for a gear install I'd run 4.56 gear either way. just don't spend a dime on upgrading a dana 35 if that's what is out back. invest in a better axle. heck, if it were me I'd find some junkyard axles from a later model XJ (dana 30 with bigger ujoints and one-piece shafts and a Chrysler 8.25) and build those up and then swap with the current ones. Corey352
Its a manual. And alright that sounds awesome. I'm 18 and just got a job so I'm new to the whole building it up thing. I don't know where to begin but new axles deft sounds like a good place to start
Pete M
well, regearing an axle is actually a not-so-great place to start if you're doing the work yourself and it's your first repair. it' a complicated and involved procedure that you'll end up doing numerous times to get it just right. they aren't installed as much as "set up". to pay a pro would cast around 600 per axle. that's how involved it is. read up on the procedure and maybe find someone local that knows how to do it that's willing to lend a hand and a watchful eye. if you do it wrong, you can ruin the gears and bearings. an alternative is to find junkyard axles with 4.10s in the and freshen them up and install them under your truck. it can be much cheaper. johnj92131
You really need to get your truck into proper running condition first. What are you trying to do with the truck? Just put 33 inch tires on for looks? You need to know what you are trying to accomplish before you just starting changing things to change things. And you need to know what you are starting with first.
