Really, that much? I would have thought, given the shape and miles it'd be worth 25 or even 3. How do you figure the market rate?

Watch Craigslist.

It would have to be a really nice 2wd 4-cylinder to go much over $2,000. But you know that value is determined by what somebody will pay... not EVERYBODY, but just SOMEBODY. For any given sale, regardless of how high the asking price, it only takes 1 buyer fool to complete a deal.

I saw a very nice 88 2wd I-6 locally here for sale on the side of the road for a year and a half. It was listed online on a few sites too (CL, Oodle, and Ebay) for $4,500. It did actually sell, eventually, but I don't know for how much. I guess if you are patient enough and have a pair of enormous brass balls, you can hold out for a high price and eventually find a sucker who will meet it.

My 88 4.0L resto-mod MJ with less miles and way ahead of that one sold for a hair under 5K. I messaged the guy about it just seeing why he thought it was worth so much. Typical response of "its a super rare Jeep." Must be something in the water down here

A couple months back i was talking to a fella in New Mexico about a .90MJ he was trying to sell. Was asking 8K for it. 4.0, AW4, 2WD. 140K. The nicest thing could be said about was 100% rust free. Engine sounded like a burnt ex valve and tranny was slipping. When I asked him why he was asking so much for a worn out Jeep he replied, "Because it's super rare". I sent him a pic of 8 of my MJ'S lined up in a neat row and asked him, "So just how rare is it?" Never heard back from him.  :dunno:
