MjPioneer
When I bought my Mj the old owners told me it didn't have rear brakes, which was fine for what i payed for it. I've been living with front brakes only for a while now and it is time to redo the rears. So here is the issue I am runing into, their is litterly nothing in the rear. Pretty much I have tires attached to the axle and that it. I beleive there is a backing plate that holds the brake assembly together? Were can I buy everything I need for the brake system? Aside from the JY that is, if I could of gotten it their I would have already. Its a D44 rear end btw.
ParadiseMJ
If you have the backing plate (and the lines going to it) you'd need: Wheel cylinders Drums? Shoes and a hardware kit. ...and the e-brake hardware (which you may have to glean from a JY) Sounds like it might be a good time to swap over to rear discs though depending on your axle set-up. Many write-ups on this site and if you're going to spend the dough, you might as well upgrade to better brakes.
Geonovast
x2 on the discs. Sounds to me like they removed everything, including the backing plates... WHY? D44 drums may not be the easiest thing to find.
-600JeepMJ
sound like a great time to put a set of disk breaks on. http://jeepin.com/features/cvdiscs/index.asp http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoD44EADiscBrakes.htm
Backroads
x2 on the discs. Sounds to me like they removed everything, including the backing plates... WHY? D44 drums may not be the easiest thing to find. Most auto parts stores should have all the components you would need. THe only thing I see as an issue (and maybe thats what you meant ^) would be backing plates.
DJM/78
I know their kinda pricey but you can't go wrong with these : http://www.teraflex.biz/products/rear-d ... ocket.html By the time you add everything up , might as well pay a little more for these . MjPioneer
Thanks everybody. Looks like I will be going with rear disks, its deffenatly the easiest option for me, since I won't need to get ahold of those darn backing plates. Now as far as why the previous owners took everything out? They claimed it was all junk and was to gummed up to repair so they stripped it out, since of course you only need front breaks. Did i mention the previous owners were a 18yr old guy and 18yr gal? :wall: :wall:
comanche12
don't worry ur not only one who have front brake only in comanche. i have that issue too. because i got axles swapped with no brake on rear. kastein
If they will bolt up, I have a set of drums off an 8.25 that you can have for free, I want them off my porch. Just need the actual drums and you're all set, they include shoes/cylinders/springs/other junk. I'm in Worcester. Is the bolt pattern on a ZJ d44a different from the bolt pattern on a real d44? If it isn't, these should work. EDIT: looks like different bolt pattern :( get some disks on there for sure!
