onebigmj
I saw a thread somewhere about using WJ knuckles on an older axle or something to that effect. I found a WJ front axle and mastercylinder pretty cheap and was thinking about doing it if its worth while. So here's my question. Is it worth the trouble and what is involved in doing it? Thanks for any and all information.
DJM/78
Went through this about a month ago with my truck , the problem is you will need more than just the brakes . All of the steering will need to be swapped as well as the knuckles from the WJ and you have to drill a different bolt pattern through the WJ rotors to match the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern . Some other minor welding is needed as well like a spacer on the knuckle . There are a couple of ways that I've seen it done but most of it confused me . I did not want to have my truck apart and not be able to put it together if I ran into a problem . IMHO I just replaced the stock brakes with better NEW OEM rotors and calipers and SS brake lines , my truck stops way better than it ever did before even with wide wheels and 31x10.5's . The new aftermarket Tera Flex discs in the rear helped that a little as well However all I really notice from the rear now is the discs don't lock as soon as you mash the brake keeping the rear a little more stable , more noticeable under braking in a turn or a lean . 75sv1
Might look at the MadXJ site for some brake swaps: http://www.madxj.com/ Tom
MrFreeze5
In addition to what was mentioned already, the trackbar mount must be raised over the axle for proper geometry.
