new stock tank/stock pump -vs- fuel cell/aftermarket pump

Recommended Posts

well, it would appear that the fuel tank in the 88 is toast due to rampant rust. that or someone stole the stale gas. :rotfl2: it'll be a moment or 2 before I can afford anything so I figure it's a good time to start dreaming. what would you do? the truck is definitely an offroad machine now, so I don't need a big tank. but a new tank/pump would bolt right in. I'd have to finagle a fuel cell somewhere. and it would take a bunch of new hoses and fittings and what-not. It'd be awesome if I could somehow use one of my military gas cans as my fuel cell. :D

Thoughts?

Can't you get them off of ebay? I mean, not like your '88 is going anywhere, and I am sure the bunch of us would pitch in to get the godfather a new tank for the war machine.

Fabbing up some custom cans out ammo boxes would be a PITA. Not to mention unless your going to tow it everywhere the smallness of them would be a drawback. Just sit tight, and pull some sidejobs Pete... You'll get there...

I've seen tanks on ebay going for $60 to $160, Fuel pumps $19 to $80. You realy want to check all prices there before you order anything. In line with Automans suggestion, I have a 23 gal tank from a '87 MJ. I will donate it if someone else will pay shipping. It's used but it is rust and dirt free. Infact if I wiped the dust off it I would challenge anyone to tell the difference between it and a new one.
