mknherhappy
We had freezing rain for two days, got my doors open, however the knobs won't pop back out. Had them warmed up enough to work during the day, but when the sun went down, the froze again. Should I spray them with WD40? Any ideas would be appreciated. CWLONGSHOT
Once thawn WD40 is a good choice!! The WD stands for Water Displacement 40th version/attempt!! I have this problem with my MJ as well. I have tried many things and WD40 is as good as any of them!! Good luck, CW
Carl'sMJ
WD-40 is great stuff, but the only downfall I've heard of for latches and locks is the fact that WD-40 attracts dirt, and dirt naturally has moisture in it which will of course freeze... Maybe some sort of teflon based dry lube??? :dunno:
Dave Stark
Graphite anti seize lubricant.
jimoshel
Use the WD 40 to free everything up and get the moisture out. Once it's clean use a graphite base lube. I've had good luck using a motorcycle chain lube.Get it on it sticks.
DJM/78
:agree: Graphite lube works well . I've used chain lube as well , that stuff sticks to anything .
KYMJ
I had problems with this as well. I used WD40, Teflon spray, and a graphite spray, none of which worked, so I just never locked the doors overnight in winter. I finally found some door latches from a 96 XJ at the pull a part-no more problem.
ParadiseMJ
In an emergency I've had to pee on my door lock. Worked like a charm. ...but if I had to lock them up in consistenly freezing weather I'd go the graphite route.
