kmack
hey, i'm getting closer and closer to doing the swap from the french peice of $#!& to the ax. i'm wondering what sort of tools or tricks you guys know when trying to pull out the ax, with the np231 and the whole clutch/master/slave and all that goodness.... ...while the donor is on the ground in the snow with hand tools. so far i know that i need an e-12 torx 10mm 11mm 14mm 15mm 19mm and if your wondering, the installation will be done professionally. its up to me to gather the parts needed however. pingpong
Make sure you grab all the t-case linkage off of the donor vehicle, as well as the x member they are different.

kmack
so, for some reason the tcase linkage was missing. there was no snow and it was nice out, the vehicle was lifted, and the e12 was substituted with a 10mm socket. it took 3hrs and if i had to redo it i could probably do it in an hour. unfortunately the yard closed 2.5hours early and i forgot all the bolts while rushing to pack my truck up. then my peice of $#!& ford broke down on the way home so i had to leave the tranny on the side of the road. i went in a crv (poor crv) to pick it up today and will hopefully put it in tomorow. being a 231 transfer that i got and that i'm about to put in, shouldn't the linkage be the same? i'm hoping the bolts are all the same otherwise i'm screwed. :dunno: on a side note, the donor had an internal slave, and so does my jeep so i'm pretty sure that i won't need the master cylinder (that i forgot in the ford) so it looks like smooth sailing from here. i might go back for a whole day to get some more $#!&. maybe a clutch and wheel bearings. kmack
so i got the ax in today. had an issue with the cross members and the transfer case linkage. is this common?
kmack
so its all done minus the transfer case linkage plate. the crossmember had to be modified like so: and its insane how quiet she is now. if anyone has any questions just let me know. cracker
I'm confused. Can I see a picture of it installed and the other side of the crossmember?
kmack
It's just an extension. I used the tranny mount from the ax15 off a 90 xj. I have a pic of the other side but it's on my computer. Might be a couple days because I'm headed to the pick a part.
mjeff87
you needed to move the crossmember back on the framerails to the next set of holes....... but ^^that^^ will work too, I suppose ;) Jeff

pingpong
There is another complete set of holes. You have to run a 10x1.5(iirc) through the second set of holes. I did the same swap on my junk. As for the linkage. You need the body mount part as well as all the link pieces. I ultmately ended up making my own lower link out of all thread and a 1/4 hiem for adjustability. I have a TJ t-case and of course they are clocked flatter. I shall fix this with a 231/231 doubler which should make for a nice short d/shaft one I get around to do my HP44/9" swap Then it will be on like donkey kong
kmack
what do you mean by the body mount peice and linkages? i'm using the exact same transfer case, the only difference to me is that the braket that the transmission provides are different. if the junkyard is open tomorow i will have two cherokees to choose parts from. they are mint other than they have almost 400k km. mint interiors though. i would love to grab the carpet out of one so i can fix the holes in my floor. BORDENCOMANCHE
Don't waste your time pulling a rug out of a rig that might take you all day, go to local hardware store, grab a sheet of rug (comfy stuff at that) and place your carpet over top, cut to match and whala, install. I will send you pic of my beautiful carpet when I get a chance.
pingpong
The body mount piece is the piece held onto the body by 4 self tapping bolts.
