what would a 4cly with 3.09 be like?

Recommended Posts

well no i was hoping to keep both so i can work on mine because right now i can't do any work on my truck for i wouldn't have a vehicle to drive.

It would suck, but be drivable. The 4 speed 2.5L MJ's came with 3.55's, and the one I had did pretty good on the low end, but I could not imagine what 5th would be like in something with 3.07's.

I'm currently running 2.5L/4spd with 3.55's and 33X12.5 tires, Its not a rocket but it is way more powerful than i had expected it to be. with that said i can't wait to get new gears jamminz.gif

on the street with stockish tires i think you will be fine at least 1st through 4th gear. i don't think 5th will be much use as my 4th feels about how 5th should.

Put really low profile tires on it and it'll be fine! (smaller tires are like lowering your gear ratio)

Do that, it's easier and better for your situation. 4cyl and 3.07 gears is a bad combo, 1st and 2nd will be your friend, any further than that...no dice.

My 87 4x2 w/4speed and 2.5 runs at 3,000 rpm at 70-75 and does very good there. I do have a Delta cam with a bit more lift and duration and Cliiford header with a Flowmaster single in/dual out that adds probably 15 hp. On a flat road I can, without mashing it to the floor, make 60 in no more than 10 seconds, and can easily pass in 4th when someone is only doing 50-55 in a 60, so I cannot imagine running about 2,000 at 75 and a stock 2.5 and what that would mean. Would be gutless.
