azscott
Has anyone replaced the window wiper rubbers....and more so the forward window channel. The channel is the felt insert that sits in the rail that seprates the window from the smaller fixed wing window. I have not figured out how to get the new one in...getting the old one is easy..it is so rotted it is like a graham cracker. For the price of the window channels I can ill afford to screw the pooch installing on. The windo wipes look fairly simply but figured I would ask on thos too. scott
Akula69
Replacing this channel rubber involved removing the track itself. There are two torx screws at the top fo the door frame and two bolts inside the door (behind the door panel). Once it is free you can partially roll down the window and wiggle it towards the back of the truck and pull it out of the door. Replace the rubber and re-insert as it was removed, being careful to align the window back into the track.
Blue XJ
For my old 90 XJ doors I was able to by rolling the window down, getting as much of the seal in the door as I could. then roll the window up as far as it would go without damaging the seal. Then roll the window down while pinching the seal on both sides of it and it pulled the seal down and into place for me. A little bit of soapy water on the track side of the seal will help it slide easier. I had power windows when I did it, it might take two people if they are manual. For the 99 doors I just put on, I rolled the window down, then removed the door panel, then forced the seal into place as much as I could. I then took pliers and gently pulled it down the rest of the way, by pulling on the very bottom edge of it. These were the newer style doors with newer style seals though, so it might not work on the older ones.
mfpdm
If you got geniune replacements for these, then you forked out some cash. With that said, I'd pull the vent window and put them in the right way. There is actually two things in the channel that keep it in place. At the lower end, there is a little stud looking thing that holds it. Here it is without the felt. And here you can see it with the felt in. At the top, there is a little nub sticking out to prevent it from sliding up as well. When I do this, I roll the window down until I can get access to the nut that holds the window onto the regulator, removed it, let the window slide down to the bottom of the door, out of the way. Then removed the window wipes and trim. Next, onto the two torx head screws at the top of the vent window, and removed the one bolt at the bottom(10mm I think). Pull the vent window out. Replace all the rubber and wipes, then reverse the process to put it all back together. You'll put the trim on last. I've done this several times and have plenty hanging around. Don't forget to put the window back in the channel while putting the vent window back in.
azscott
...they are OEM. The wipes were from Team Cherokee and the forward channels came from Moparparts...had to wait 3 weeks for them. I could not determine a suitable sub to buy verses OEM...and non ever offered an alternative...so I went OEM...ouch....well like 35 bucks a channel. scott
AmJay
Where did you buy the Wipes? The only one's I could find were $99.00 for all 4. I really only need the outside ones. Opps.. Never mind. I see it was Team Cherokee. The only place I've found that has them.
james750
I need replacement outer window wipes for mine as well, but can't justify dropping $100 on them for what they are.
