HEADLIGHT switch

Recommended Posts

My head light switch pulls "in" and "out" OK, along with turning on the parking lights, than the head lights, this portion is OK. My problem is with the instrument lights, the only way they come on is by turning the knob clockwise till it stops. When the knob is fully turn clockwise the dome light comes on like it suppose to. Any idea whats wrong? the switch, relay or something else? :help:

More than likely, your rheostat is either dirty and not making the proper connection or it is FUBAR all together. You can pull the switch and use a little fine grit sandpaper on it, then hook it back up to see if it was a connection problem.

to remove the headlight stalk (so you can take the switch out), pull the stalk out fully as you would when turning your headlights on. Look up at the switch from underneath and behind the lower dash panel and you'll see a little button. Push that button to release the stalk and pull it out of the switch. Then you can unscrew the thumbscrew on the bezel and lower the switch down to remove the wiring harness. There may be an extra pigtail ground attached to the back of the switch, seperate from the harness, that you need to undo to remove the switch fully so you can clean/diagnose the rheostat.
