Fuel Pump vs. Fuel Tank: Possible beat to death topic

Recommended Posts

I had the same problem. After 3 pumps in relatively short order I just wiped the tank clean with a towel and picked up any itty bitty pieces of gravel left in it. Then put a new sock on the last bad pump, and it turns out the pump is fine. Still fine almost a year after I barely managed to limp into my parents' drive way going 20mph bucking and backfiring.

A plugged up sock makes the pump run loud and flow less fuel. No way to diagnose between a plugged sock and a bad pump without replacing the sock to try it.

I get better prices at my local parts stores, being a vendor and all. I can get the pump for 69 and the filter for 6.50. The fuel tank I can get used for $30 or just get one off ebay for 100 or so. Rock Auto is a great place if you can't get vendor pricing though.

different ways, condensation, weather changes, even when you fill up at the gas pumps. Normally its in small amounts, and just burns off with the fuel, and I do recommend using:

it helps a lot. Unfortunately, I wasn't using it, and collected a bit more water than the fuel system could process...
