SuperWade2
I have a lead on some MJ Buckets with the original MJ brackets...the seats look OK, just dirty (but no tears or rips). They are about an 2 hour round trip (give or take), so I'm just trying to see if it will be worth the trouble to get em. If the brackets are better than the brackets I have on mine now then I'd have a set to sell... Thoughts?
Pete M
you mean the floor brackets? or with the sliders too?
SuperWade2
you mean the floor brackets? or with the sliders too? Pete, I've always been confused by your description of the brackets vs. the sliders and the insistence that the bucket and bench "brackets" are the same. You keep flashing that one scanned pic from a service manual of the seat brackets with the red circles and it still makes no sense to me...maybe I'm just extra slow, or never paid much attention. When I had my Bench Seat and Bucket Seats sitting upside down on my garage floor sitting next to each other, the bolt holes on the bottom lined up, but not much else was alike. I'm planning on buying complete OEM MJ seats from where they mount on the floor to the headrests, so I'd assume there are sliders included somewhere there in the middle "(although when I bought my other set of brackets/sliders there was no apparent way they they could be separated, thus my ongoing confusion over your description and photo). Maybe you are pointing out that we are being lazy when we universally say "Bucket Brackets" when in fact what we mean is Floor Bracket and Sliders, since when I say "bracket", I mean from the floor to the bottom of the seat. mfpdm
I know the seats your after and the price is right for them. I've seen the brackets(floor mounts and sliders) alone go for that and higher on ebay. I was going to say before I found them that if a set in good condition with floor brackets not rusted, seats tilt the way they should and have all the trim, $150 -200 would be ok. It really depends on how bad you want them and how long you have waited to find a nice set. If your patient like me, I try to get things as cheap as possible. :D

I paid $10 for a pair of nice 2 door XJ buckets seats and welded the sliders to my bench seat "floor brackets". If you don't have a welder you can still bolt them together. There's alot more nice XJ buckets out there than nice MJ buckets as well. You can find people throwing out XJ buckets sometimes if they upgrade to better seats. Pete M
the brackets are the pieces of metal that bolt to the floor. they consist of 2 individual pieces of stamped metal and the MJ bench and MJ buckets share them. These are very different than XJ floor brackets. The sliders are the assembly that attaches between the floor brackets and the seat's internal frame. they are the sliding mechanism that lets you move the seat forward and backward. MJ bucket sliders are shared with certain XJ seats.
sinkrun
I paid a little over $100.00 just for the MJ slider brackets, Paid $60.00 for 2 door XJ seats pre 92 that would bolt right on the the brackets no rivets to grind out. Also I drove 3 hours to VA to get them so with gas at least $200.00. My bench was shot and the non headrest type very glad I did it. With the bolt up type I had them in less than 1 hour. No doubt, but he ask for the going rate on MJ buckets complete with factory floor brackets in better than average condition, not what he could put together. Original parts will always be more and you'll always pay for convenience. Add desire in there and that's what drove my price. I've put my share of 2dr Xj buckets on MJ bench brackets and will probably do it again in the future but, I would prefer OEM also for the self satifaction of having original parts.
SuperWade2
I have some cleanup work to do following mfpdm's great seat cleaning write-up, but I have some new seats (and soon to be an extra set of Bucket Bracket/Sliders) These are in much better condition than the XJ seats I took out (even though the old ones cleaned up pretty well.) These have no tears or rips, appears the frame and foam is in good condition and the brackets have just some minor surface rust! The ones with the "holey" headrest are the "new" ones. JeepcoMJ
I sold a pair of comanche bucket seat brackets (sliders and floor brackets in OEM condition) on ebay for $175, and a pair of very nice grey comanche wing back buckets in very nice shape w/o brackets for $270. the guy was deseperate and offered that if I'd end the auction. I tossed in a comanche full center console because I felt like I was robbing him. but regular going price, you're looking at around $250 for a complete setup. I don't feel bad about about what I paid for this set then... less than $100... I plan to clean up the seats, install the best pair of brackets on mine and then will sell the extra set of brackets/sliders to almost pay for these. I think I paid $75 plus shipping for the first set of bucket bracket/sliders that I got a year or so ago.
WahooSteeler
Nice catch! I have those in sweet maroon tweed! I like the look of the headrests, although I'm not sure if I'd call them "headrests" because there is no "head resting" offered by those things. I've only been on a few trips in mine over 30mins, and the one time I tried to relax for a minute, it wasn't happening. But 95% of my use is short, local runs so it's all good. And they still look sweet IMO.
Pete M
Damn. the most expensive buckets I ever got were $300 and they came with a free truck. :D But seriously, I wouldn't pay more than a hundred for a decent pair.

mfpdm
:clapping: Nice score. Those should clean up real nice. The seat back is easier to get off and on too. But you know one thing leads to another. Now you have to get the matching door panels. :D
glundblad
I think your new seats look great. I followed Paul's cleanup advice and it works great. Just be sure to use a top load washing machine rather than a front load. Fronts are way too much spinning for the vinyl. Oh and don't use any detergent with a scent... It stays forever.
