crazy electrical problems and nowhere to turn

Recommended Posts

hey everybody i used to always lurk around here and try to steal all of your good ideas but i might as well say this is my first post because its been a couple years sence the last time i came around.

ive had my comanche for abour 3 years now but once i couldnt get it inspected abour 2 and a half years ago it hasnt been getting out much. now that its starting to get nice and cold outside ive decided its time to take on a winter project and ive decided the old girls gets to sit in the garage this winter

now that ive explained myself ill get to the point i bought this jeep about 70% done and i guess its up to me to work out the bugs...its got Alot of electrical problims and I'm not really sure where to start. i guess it had a brake fluid leak from the master cylender and it went down on the wireing harness which pretty much ate my fuse box away so now i need to replace the whole harness inside and out. I'm just wondering if i can get some tips and tricks on getting that thing out and a new one put back in...or i was kicking the idea around about trying to do a 97 up dash and getting rid of the old renix style injection, I'm just not sure yet so i want to get information on both routes and then i will decide from there

by the way its a 87 with renix injection and a 4.6 so i can't just get a wrecked 97 up xj and swap everything except the motor or can i?

I have an automatic so I necer had this problem, but Ive read alot of threads about it. The main question is usually how to get the fuse box out. If I remember there is a bolt in the engine bay that you need to pull then the fuse box seperates into 2 halves. don't know if that helps.

You are correct, the cab side of the fuse box is secured with two phillips screws (that do not grasp the engine bay half....only the firewall) and the firewall half is secured by a 7/32 bolt that is about 1 1/2 inches long.

It seems to take forever to get it loose because you can't see it, and the space to move the rachet is about 1/2 inch.
