Philistine
Found a good deal on a NP231 with 21 spline input. I have an 86 MJ with a NP207. Does any one know if it would be 21 or 23 spline?
Geonovast
Your 207 will be a 21 spline. What transmission did the 231 come off of? If it came off of an AW4 or BA 10/5, you may find input length problems.
Philistine
I'm waiting on that information. I need to find out if it's a cable driven speedo setup too. But it's not something I just will slap in. I plan on doing a 4:1 upgrade. Basically something to work on and build up.
Geonovast
Cable driven shouldn't be too much of a concern... all that stuff's swappable. Although the 207 did use a different style speedo holder than the 231, your cable should thread onto any sender in a 231.
JeepcoMJ
whether or not it's electric or cable speedo is no matter. as geonovast stated, the speedo "holder" is different between 207 and 231. you can use any cable driven 231 speedo gear "holder" to thread onto your cable...but, you will need a new speedometer gear as they're NOT interchangeable. there were a few different tail housings on the ax5 5 speed/ax4 4 speed that is in your truck (unless it's an auto)...the differences being what sort of input shaft depth the seal is set up for. you can get a seal cross referenced to make up for the difference in input length on the t-case.
