what did you do to your MJ today?

Recommended Posts

Got the tcase rebuilt. Apparently red rtv doesn't hold up to atf fluid, plugged the lube galleys in the main shafts and created a little wear on the drive sprockets. I did run it extremely low if not out of fluid a few years ago. Used a different case and guts I had, did the output bearings/seals and used some locktite 598 black with is compatible with atf. Fixed my 60+ mph vibration due to front output being being toast, but I still have a clicking noise while creeping. I figure it's driveshaft related since the inner part of the cv joint is bone dry and I only have 1 new grease able joint on it. I'll have to pull it and go for a drive before sinking more money into that stupid shaft.

Picked up an HD Tie Rod and new TREs from Iron Rock Offroad during their Christmas sale. This thing has gotta weigh north of 12lbs -- 1.25" dia and solid.

Before I retired I would see that stuff all the time. I was a government fleet tech.

I had to trailer a fire ladder one early morning. They shattered all 4 rear brake rotors. Like glass! 93,000# truck on a 35ton trailer.

Officer comes in after a high speed chase, and request we check tires, brakes, and it's been making a funny noise for about 1500mi.
I barely get the car on the lift, and I hear what sounds like a shotgun come from the rear axle. "Um.... Ya think you could manage getting noises checked out a little sooner, so you don't die!"d14e579128af3af3bcfef3a6323c95b0.jpg738f31f345d25c507da51c0027a1db07.jpg

When I bought my 86 mj last March I promised the old girl I would restore her stripes eventually after it was painted. Thanks to Spencer at jeepsticker.com we made it happen. I had a friend who does graphic design put together the design and Spencer brought it to life. Great work Spence!

So my leaking internal slave cylinder turned into a leaking slave, leaking rear main, and leaking oil pan gasket. Decided to order a new pan since this one has been repaired.

The PO had left out the shifter gasket, and the shifter boot was about 1\2 gone.
Is there a plug to go in the hole where the hydraulic clutch lines pass through the bell housing?

The plug/dust boot may be available but the lines move around a bit due to the floating slave unless someone has their foot on the clutch.

Crap. I must’ve copied/pasted the wrong item number. There was a bag with the dust plug in it.

New clutch installed, transmission is back in. Needs the CPS installed & slave bled out.

Still gotta put a shifter seat seal, and new tail shaft seal in it.

I found rust!!!
Front corners of both floors, right at the fender\firewall. Only about the size of a half dollar right now.
