  1. Hello, first post, before I discuss the issues, I've tried my best to look at most of the forum for a solution. I have an 87' Comanche, 2WD automatic, 4.0 inline 6. I was at the gas station, pulled in just fine, got my dranky drank, and when I went to pull out, reverse worked fine, put it into D, and I had no power whatsoever. I pulled my TCU out, and I still had the same issue, I have to manually shift it from 2-1 to D. And when put it in D, it starts off in 3rd, doesn't up or down shift. Reading online, I've seen a couple of things as far replacing the TCU, replacing that TPS, stuff like that. I have a new TCU lined up hopefully, however I just replaced the TPS after diagnosing the last one. When the TPS was relaxed, it was reading 4.8 volts. Switched out the new one, and the open throttle position shows me 4.8V. I guess my first question would be, How do I diagnose the TCU with a multimeter? How do I know if my new TPS was installed correctly? And is my transmission just shot? I've been after this for months, my mechanical knowledge extends to replacing an alternator on my dad's comanche, and an actuator, so I'm learning from scratch here. I'd appreciate any feedback, tips, etc.. Thank you in advance.
  2. Speedo help. The truck will have 37’s soon. Axles have 4.56 gears. What Speedo gear do I need to order for the tcase to keep the speed right? Buying the correct gear will keep the odometer accurate also, correct? Also don’t know if I need the short or long gear. Just did the 2wd ba10 to 4wd ax15 from a 96’ xj. The Speedo parts that go into the trans/tcase are different between the 2wd and 4wd transmissions. I won’t be able to use the cable driven Speedo off of my 2wd trans (it’s much bigger) so I’m going to take the Speedo mechanism off of my 87’ 4wd mj tcase.
  3. So my jeep has been making a weird knocking noise inbetween the tranny & motor. I have read it could be cracked flex plate or loose flex plate bolts. Bolts were tight and I couldn’t really tell if my flex plate was cracked or not so I went ahead and pulled the tranny. Gonna go ahead and change the flex plate (if I got the right one). Any other ideas on why my transmission is making noise? It has also been shifting a very high rpm even after I changed the TPS. Below is the new flex plate and old. Could someone also tell me if it’s the right one?

  5. Good morning to all! I was curious as to which transmissions will bolt up to the Jeep 4.0. Right now I believe there is a Chevy trans connected to the vortex swap the previous owner did (haven’t ripped into my MJ for a swap yet). Appreciate the help this far guys! Love the website also quick side note I was told I need to do 10 replies or posts and I was just curious if someone who is a long time user of this forum could clarify that for me
