  1. I recently purchased an ‘89 jeep Comanche sport truck with the 4.0 l motor with the 5 speed gear box and 4wd. The Jeep has sat up supposedly untouched since 2005 according to previous owner. Since buying it we dropped the fuel tank and we’re using a temporary gas can with a new fuel pump and lines. We took off the fuel rail and cleaned it. We checked all injectors and cleaned them out and put it all back on the truck. We check for spark and checked all plugs and it is getting enough spark for the engine to start. We checked compression on all cylinders and are getting around 130-150 on all cylinders except the back one which is getting around 90, albeit low, but not low enough to stop from running. We of course cleaned out the air box and stuck a new filter into it. At about this point of cleaning and checking and making sure, we try to start the vehicle and it successfully ran for a few seconds and shut off due to the brake clean sprayed into the holes while the fuel injectors were out. For the life of us, we can not get it to start. We have gone through and done all the checks previously stated and have accomplished nothing. We inspected closer and found the crank sensor was damaged and replaced it with a brand new one that we tested and installed, but still we get nothing. If you have run into a similar issue or have a lot of knowledge on these Comanches, please write back. I can provide pictures and additional info, but a point in any direction would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I recently started working on my 1987 Jeep Comanche 4.0L again and so far I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, transmission shift cable, spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel pump relay. Now that I have all these things replaced I was getting ready to get it running and after multiple attempts it would fire sometimes, other times not when we would spray engine starter into the carburetor. We then took one of the spark plugs out to see if we were getting spark and turns out we weren't!!! Before this we checked the fuel injectors and they were all working perfectly, the pressure was amazing on the fuel rail as well, so we knew it wasn't a fuel issue like other people have said it could be. Next we checked the ECM to see if it was messed up internally at all and it was perfect as well. So I am at a stopping point right now until I can figure out what is causing NO SPARK! I heard that it could possibly be the ICM, but I wanted to hear from fellow Comanche owners before I move forward. Please Help!

  6. Back again guys this time it's a fuel problem was going up a hill it had been bucking for about 40 miles finally it died mid way up the hill it'll start and run for about 10 seconds and die. So I changed the pump fuel pressure regulator vacuum lines etc.... now it'll start perfectly and stay running but has zero power and if you Rev it it almost dies after letting off its also back firing through the throttle body I'm guessing a voltage problem to the pump but any other options would be great to check into
