  1. '88 long bed that I built for my wife. Before: It was 2WD with the Peugeot 5 speed and D35. She wasn't a big fan of the manual transmission. I didn't like it either, but for other reasons. :D After: First trip on the trail: It now has an AW4, 231 doubler, TNT long arm front suspension, spring over with 8.8 rear, ECTEDs front and rear, 4.88 gears, 35" Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs, and some other stuff. I've got lots of pictures along the way. I'll add them with the details as I have time. I'll probably start on rock sliders this weekend. Then a rear bumper since we practically ripped off the stock one. I plan to get a Warn M8000 winch and build a front bumper around it in the near future. Willy

  3. I will start with a brief introduction and storyline of my Comanche. I bought it as my first car at the age of 17 to have something that could go off-road with my family. That was 5 years ago and since then, a lot of things have changed. For the first 2 years, I fought gremlins caused by whoever worked on it before me not really having much time to modify while just fixing all the issues of buying someone else's build. About two years into owning it, I cut the roll cage that the previous owner built off so that I could build a better looking and stronger roll cage. It was at that time after cutting the old cage off, I decided to go on a couple trail rides and unfortunately rolled the comanche over without a cage on a steep off camber down hill. We pushed it over and it began to rain so I drove it home with no front windshield and a smashed cab in the rain. This marked it's first major overhaul in the first couple years. At this time, I straightened the window frame as best as possible to put a windshield back in it and pushed the A pillars back where they should be. After that, it was time for a new roll cage and a couple other parts like track bar that cracked in the roll over. I drove it like that with some minor modifications here and there for the next 2 years. At this time, a friend and I decided we wanted to race King of the Hammers stock class, as well as the entire west Ultra4 series so we then took action and cut the old roll cage off and built a new race legal cage, put new seats in, installed a fuel cell and many of other upgrades as well as safety requirements. After it was all built, we took off for King of the Hammers 2018 and races our first race. After KOH, we fixed what was necessary and affordable and then took off for the Sacramento area for the Ultra4 Stampede race and raced that race. After that is when things started to go wrong prepping for the next race in Ridgecrest losing my Codriver and teammate. That brings us to now, 3 weeks until the next race, but no codriver and a team that is now busy with work and other things. With everything going on and a busy life, racing will have to begin again when I am finished with college in a few years. That is where this thread begins, another rebuild, except this time it is to make a race truck into a street legal truck again. This will involve cutting off yet another roll cage and building another new cage, putting a windshield back in the truck, building a new custom fabricated dash, patching holes from racing, a new heater/possibly air conditioning, new doors, new back window out of plexiglass, a center console, painting it, building a new rear bumper, new front suspension 3 links and I am sure a whole lot more. Until I get busy with all of that soon, I will provide some old pictures and if anybody wants to know anything from the past, feel free to ask any questions. Here is a current photo from the last race in Sacramento. I will dig up some older photos and show them as well.
  4. So after a long 9months (at my pace) which I hear is standard gestation for the Mj, I can finally call Truck Norris done...ish. Here’s the back story. As with most things it’s either a “no time plenty of money or a no money plenty of time” situation. However, all the planets aligned for this one. I purchased the Mj from a good friend who has been using it as a run around/driveway plow truck. He has swapped everything (engine, trans, interior, door interiors and skins...etc) from a 96 Xj. So what we are left with is a very comfortable 92 Mj with Ac and power everything. What better way to screw it up then to tear it apart right? But an Mj is what I have always dreamed of having. So from what I started with, here’s what it is now. 92 Mj 4.0/aw4 backed by an atlas 3.0, hp 44/9” combo with 5.13’s and 35sp shtuff, ox locker/Detroit combo. 4wheel disk with a line lock. 37” nittos and MT classic 2s. Home brew bumpers and rock sliders. Hydro assist from psc/redneck ram. SOA with stock 2WD springs and a home brew 3link. Behind bumper winch, interior cage, beard suspension seats ( I unknowingly bought the seats from a guy who owned the truck 2 owners ago), 2000 Xj center console. Most of the floor was cut out to mitigate rust. All of the cooling system is new, I’ve been chasing an over heating issue for a while but may finally have it licked...fingers crossed. An awesome custom head liner compliments of my buddy’s craft master wife, and the best Bluetooth speaker Walmart can supply for $42. Behind the wheel of this truck may be the most fun I have ever had on or off the road.
  5. So I started my wheel base mod this weekend. I started off with a 114" wheel base and I'm shorting it up 8" so it will be at 106". Which I think will be perfect. So first I had to get the bed off which is kinda a pain. So I did some measuring and found out I couldn't use a regular front leaf spring mount because it would put the spring to far below the frame and lift my jeep 2". So I decided to do my part and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and reuse the front spring brackets. I had to drill out all the spot welds holding the leaf spring brackets on the frame :bang: . Then I decide to reuse the rear hangers too. So out came the drill and more drilling :bang: . So with all spot welds drilled and the mounts off I started measuring again and I had to notch the frame so the front leaf spring bushing would clear and not lift my rig. So came the notching of the frame and finding something that was 4" round to fill in the notch, I happened to find an old oxy bottle cap and it worked perfect. Got the front leaf spring mounts cut so they would fit Then started tacking the mounts on front and rear. While I was doing the rear hangers Brady shorted my rock rails so they will clear the tires... And here it is on the ground, I will be final welding all the brackets next weekend and start on the bed To be continued.......
