  1. I just recently bought an 88 Comanche that is a really big Frankenstein with a 91 Cherokee. I went to fill up the tank and as usual in jeeps, the pump wanted to stop every 5 seconds. Tried going slowly but nothing worked. It took me 10 minutes to get 2 dollars in, and when I did the gas started to overflow. That is where my bigger issue is... there is barely any gas in the tank and it won’t fill up? Any help? THANKS!
  2. Recently purchased a 1988 Comanche with a 1998 4.0L swap. Gas gauge wasn't working and was always sitting on E with the light on. Previous owner told me it was the fuel sending unit. Replaced the sending unit/pump and the gas gauge worked till I took it to the gas station and turned her off. Once I turned her back on the needle was back to 0 with the E light permanently on. Occasionally the needle will go up to a quarter, but the light will stay on and the needle will return to E shortly after. Any ideas?
  3. I tried searching for the answer to this, but I've had no luck. I tried starting my truck today, and it wouldn't start. So I opened the hood, and noticed gasoline sprayed around the passenger side firewall area. I'm at work right now, so i havn't had a chance to really check it out. Does anyone have any clue what could be going on? If any of you have seen my build thread, you probably read that the PO put gasoline in the master cylinder. So I'm terrified about what else he did.
  4. Been working on my jeep on and off, mostly done. But life keeps getting in the way.. Anyway, I'm having power issues. My fuel pressure is ~20PSI with vacuum connected, and ~22 no vacuum. Seems low, right? I changed the diaphragm on the rail, same results. There is no ballast in line, direct wired. I'm thinking the fuel pump. Just looking for ideas before I order another pump.
  5. Hey guys!, So I have a slight problem with my truck, the other day i was leaving school and got in my comanche ready to head home when i turned the key and (insert sound of 4.0 liter trying to start but not quite getting there here.) and i said to myself no problem, i have been having some throttle body issues so some starting fluid should do the trick, and just like any owner of a 20+ year old truck should have in their emergency kit, i had some. so i popped the hood and sprayed some in and tried to firer her up again. it still did not start but this time was really close. It had never not started after a little starting fluid so i was a little concerned, but i tried for another 10 minutes at it or so, it still didn't start. At this point having no tools i needed to call in back up, so i called a family member and told him to bring the tools. When he got to the truck we went through all the basic stuff (plugs, electrical lines, throttle body sensors) but came up empty handed, and then my cousin said to me "can you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key?" and sure enough when i turned the key i didn't hear anything. So naturally at this point we concluded that it was a fuel pump and i would have to change it in the school parking lot the following week. Later that weekend my dad and i went out to the truck and he told me to try and start it, it started right up and i was able to drive it home. Has this happened to anyone else or am i just the weird one out. In these situations i would have rather it had not started in the parking lot with my dad because at least then you know what you are dealing with. Now there are a lot of unknown variables, and i don't want this to happen again. Thanks, Peter
  6. As part of my build I deceided to take a look at getting my gas tank ready for installation (way down the road). I drained the old fuel, removed all the hoses, the sending unit, etc... and after taking it outside to flush it out I realized (for the first time) that it has a pretty big dent in the bottom of the tank. Since my tank is dented I'm considering replacing it with another used tank. If I replace it with another used tank, I'd love to find one that: 1. Has a larger capacity. 2. Isn't as tall. Ideally I'd love to be able to mount the tank between the frame rails. 3. Obviously the tank will have to be longer/wider to accomdate #1 and #2. Does anyone know of a tank that might fit my needs? Any tips/suggestions on what I need to know before doing this?
