  1. So here it begins, I've always wanted an MJ and when I saw these 2 for $600 couldn't pass them up! They are in ruff shape but they run! one is for parts (no papers) and the other is going to get a makeover...already started this weekend by doing the open cooling conversion, new valve cover gasket and Vent modifications on cover, replaced ALL the vacuum lines and started the newer body conversion on the front end! Keep the MJ's on the road!
  2. Does anyone know if there is a write up on how to swap the newer +97 XJ front doors on to a MJ? I would like to know how involved it is before I go Buy the doors. Thanks
  3. I have a 1991 4.0ho eliminator and plan on tackling an engine rebuild next month. I'm going to drop the pan, again...(I replaced the rear main seal last winter) and need a new head gasket anyway. While I'm in there I'd like to replace the rings as shes burning more oil than I'd like. Is there a "tool of the trade way" to determine what size rings to get? I'd obviously like to get them in advance but I head rumors that back in the early 90's Jeep wasn't the most consistent with their assembly process. I do not want to get the wrong ring size. Also, does anyone have any leads on a go
  4. What fuse controls my 1987 MJ license plate lights? No juice to the bulbs? Everything else (electrical) seems fine. Where I'm from, anything electrical amok after dark is a law enforcement magnet. Cheers, SGTSnacks
  5. Guys, I'm an AutoCAD design engineer and have been looking for CAD Blocks for my '87 MJ 4.0 shortbed. Does anyone have any 2-D CAD templates or know anywhere I can find any? I found a Grand Cherokee, a Patriot and a Wrangler but no 'Manche. Thanks for your help. SouthernBone
  6. Hello again. So I was finally able to get a moment to put my comanche up on Jack stands and get my first real look at what was going on. I had posted a few questions on here before and got some wonderful feedback and now that I am a little more informed, I want to try again. My name is Ant and I just bought my Comanche! It is an 88 Jeep Comanche Cheif. 4.0l Renix 5 speed 4wd Short bed. (Previously I said it was an 87, but the title says differently) The previous owner bought the truck as a project and never began. The Guy he bought it from apparently stoppe
  7. Hello fellow MJ lovers, My name is Ant and I just bought my Comanche! I have wanted this truck since I was 13 and now as a 24 year old I finally have it. It is an 87 Jeep Comanche Cheif. 4.0l Renix 5 speed 4wd Short bed. I just bought it and I am super excited to start working on it but I am left with some questions. First and foremost, the driveshaft is disconnected as the previous owner started to put in a clutch slave cylinder. I am hoping you guys can help me ot. I have owned 2 cherokees in the past that I have done all my own work on but I have 0 experience wi
  8. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the the bored renix throttle body from http://www.strokedjeep.com and if so what luck they had and any real benefit? Thanks

Hey guys, remember that feeling of being a freshman on the first day of highschool? Haha that's me right now. My name is Gabriel, I am from south Florida. I want to thank the admins for approving my membership request. This is like my introductory post, I got my Comanche on July 28th and I have been researching, building, and putting together ever since then. The way I got my manche is interesting, I had a 2003 Yamaha big bear 400 4x4 that I had built up (and I dearly miss) I decided to trade my atv with a guy for 2 jeeps. A 1988 jeep Cherokee pioneer 4x4, and a 1988 Jeep Comanche 2wd. I
  10. I have been putting this off for a long time but have a lot of free time today so I'll go ahead and post this up. I got my truck in the summer of 2011. She is a 1989 Comanche Pioneer,4.0, 2wd, d35, auto on the column, with about 280000 miles on it. I really am just guessing about that mileage because the guy I bought it from at a pseudo car lot, really it was just a garage with cars out front, said the gauge cluster had been replaced and it actually had 140k miles on it rather than the near 240k the clock was showing. I was inclined to believe him because it ran very well, but then
  11. HI I am new to this community but not to Jeep forums. I tried being active on Cherokee Forum, but I decided to not spend too much on my XJ. I daily drive an XJ and used to want to build it up. However I have always loved the MJ platform and that was what I wanted in the first place. Well I officially got the title to a 1991 Jeep Comanche I bought at the end of January. So it is official and I can dump money in it and start a build thread. I bought it mainly for being a straight body with no rust. It will be a long project but hopefully done by the end of the year.
  12. So I got rid of the street comanche a few months back as you all are aware of. I sold my immaculate XJ as well the other day, for this. Its a 1990 Comanche pioneer, it has the metric tonne package. Its got a locked D44 rear and d30 front with chromolys and geared to 4:10. It is dark blue, it's got custom metalcloak TJ long arms up front with there 6" coils. SOA in rear and all around a 5-6 inch lift. Now the major stuff: Built LM7 5.3 from a 2005 silverado with just under or around 400HP. A built 700R4 and a new/rebuilt NP241 T-Case. All the swap was done using Novak adapt parts and painless h
  13. Finally getting around to starting this process. Picked up my second Jeep last summer (2016), MJ Pioneer, I-6, Manual, 4x4, Short Box. Mechanically in great shape. Some rust, of course, minor dents and dings, interior is pretty rough. I've wanted a great truck, so I will make this one great. Here is where I started from:
  14. Looking for a 91,92, MJ/XJ crossbody harness, for PWR windows & PWR Door locks, harness needs to have the relays or the relay connectors installed on the harness. Good Shape, shoot me a picture, tell me a price, don't have a lot of salvage yards and no pick a parts in my area. THX
  15. I have a 88 Mj with 4.5" of lift with a 4.0 under the hood mated to a ax15. I picked up a 355(350) out of a yj from a kid that had advanced adapters bell mounted to the jeeps ax15. The 355 did not break anything in his yj. I think I am safe running it. I got everything carb to pan engine wise including yj 350 headers and have the bell fork, pilot, and entire clutch. Basically everything except for the master and slave cylinders. The kid has a new piliot and some other part I still need to pick up from him. I plan on doing the swap as soon as the snow is gone and want to make
  16. Just thought I would share. One of 50 built, never seen one before. More pictures in the link, they are asking about 6 grand US. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C696381 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C696381
  17. Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I just picked up my first Comanche yesterday. Snagged a non-running 86 4x4 auto model for $500. I wanted to start this thread so I had a place to post progress on the truck, as well as get feedback and tips. Plans for the truck so far are to get it running, repair any rust, paint, bedliner, wheels and tires, and then use it as a daily driver to keep the miles down on my TJ. Eventually I would like to do a lift, bigger tires, and a motor swap. The truck will mostly be used to drive back and forth to work, hauling loads of mulch, and the occasional light
  18. Hey guys I have a 1990 jeep Comanche and ever sence I bought it it had no radio. It had a pioneer head unit. It would turn on but nothing would play so I checked the wiring and it was all off so I just cut every wire connector and did it all over I went off of this for the mj wiring -------- 1988-90 Jeep Cherokee Stereo Constant 12V+ Pink Switched 12V+ Purple/Orange Ground Black Illumination Orange/Black Dimmer Dark Blue/White Antenna Trigger Gray Front Speakers Left Front (+) Green Left Front (-) Black/Yellow Right Front (+) White Right Front (-) Black Rear Speakers Left Rea
  19. Hello club, Prospecting a 87 4cyl standard mj that's priced right and in good shape, also a friend of mine has a really nice 01 xj4.0 auto with low miles and a damaged rear end, but everything is in good shape to swap over to the mj, i was wondering if theres any problems or thing to know when swapping everything from an xj to an mj i plan on taking everything including motor, axles, drivetrain, front end body swap, full interior, ecu wiring ect. Just looking for some tips before i make the purchases. Thanks anyone willing to give me some imput
  20. Would a Xj rocker fit a Mj? i know some alterations will have to be done but will they look the same? I will probably go to the pick a part or a JY and cut one out of a Xj. Any suggestions ideas on how to make this easier? Its rusted out along the full length on one of my Mjs and i have a rust hole on the other as well!! :fs1: I don't wanna take a pic my DD Mjs rust spot. I'm still in denial even though its now a fifty cent piece sized hole!!! :wall:
  21. FNG here, call me Grumpy. My MJ is NOT pretty. It has led a tough life. Got her off the 'net for $400 . It was sitting under a tree in a self store, with a flat tire, and windows open. The bed was full of some ladies treasures, leaves, and a foot of water. No water in cab, because driver side floorboard was rusted away. Got her home, cleaned her up, had the flat fixed(rusty rim) bled the clutch - and have been running her ever since. Pulled the manifolds and trued them, new fel-pro gaskets. New vacuum tree, new valve cover gaskets. New waterpump, made a new piece to adjust the belt (the li
  22. I've been looking to get a lift for my 1990 mj the only options I've seen is rough country rro and runic one express. Ive been thinking about the 4.5" rough country because I don't really wanna go spring over axle mainly because I don't have a good welder but I'm very disappointed with the lofts because they don't come with new leaf springs and the 4.5 rough country doesn't come with a track bar or drop pitman arm or quick disconnects. What are you guys running. Any good lift kits out there that you can't find easy? I have hers people using hell creek but I can't find a kit for the mj when I g
  23. Wanted to start this off with a big thank you CC members for everything you all do. Not to long ago my XJ sold to a CC member and we was VERY gracious on delivery conditions with me. Plus he saved the XJ from my local repair shop from keeping/scrapping it since I couldn't afford the shop bill. Now I could use some advice, the legal kind, on my MJ. With the XJ gone, I need my MJ to be my new DD/work truck. Easy right? Well it gets complicated. (Story starts with XJ still running fine, not in shop) I had the MJ posted here and everywhere online. Had one buyer lined up in NY not too far f
  24. i am looking to make a few bucks on the side by building parts for jeep mjs and xjs.. PM me or reply if you have anything you would like to have built and or would like to see being built. i may be willing to manufacture in small quantities if i get enough requests. thank you
  25. I'll start this off with, this is not a build, it is a hypothetical project that I want to work on in near future. So one day I'm driving around Upstate NY somewhere. And I'm allows on the look out for Jeeps, even have a lame roadtrip game for Jeeps. Then I see a rusty Comanche in a yard. Naturally I pull over to investigate this fairly rare sighting. Go to the owner's porch and knock on the door. He seems confused to see a stranger on his property. I tell him I'm here to talk about the Comanche. I bring up how I am driving my 89 MJ longbed. Instantly earn his respect and attention. Tel
