draining a fuel tank

Pop the fuel line off the filter, stick it in a gas can, and jump across at the fuel pump relay socket. Assuming your fuel pump works.

Or shove a tube down the filler neck and swallow a bunch of gas. The question is why you're trying to siphon out the fuel?

I could siphon the tank out the old way, gas in mouth, but it only takes a little to kill you, seriously.  Aspirating   fuel can be deadly  Using the pump to empty it is best, but if the pump is non-op it's better and safer to get a cheap hand operated siphon pump.  If you're removing it, you only need to get it down to about 1/4 tank before you drop it,

Find a plug to go in a hose, that will seal one end airtight. Fill the hose with gas and plug the end. Put the unplugged end in the tank. Put the plugged end in a container LOWER than the tank, when you pull the plug the hose will siphon.

The filler neck has a couple pretty good kinks in it, plus it goes into the side of the tank, so it might be awkward getting a not hugely flexible hose down there and then it might not even curve down to the bottom. I've never actually tried it. Pulling the fuel lines off and draining it that way, either by pump or gravity (return line) is going to be a better way to do it for sure.

Hi guys,  This is how I got gas out of the tank--the difference being that I used a quick burst of 50 psi from my air compressor for the pressure.  Worked perfectly!  I put a new fuel pump in the tank but she still won't start.  I've also replace the fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs and wires.  Anyone have any ideas?  Any suggestions are helpful!  Thanks!

Does anyone know if how to syphon gas from the 89 comanche fuel tank?  My fuel pump does not work so I'm thinking that I need to drain some gas before removing/installing a new pump.

Thanks for all the help!

You started out this thread stating your fuel pump wasn't working. What was wrong with it? Wouldn't run? No fuel pressure?
