CPS problems

Ok so I bought an 89 Comanche 2 years ago. That may have been a mistake lol. Anyway after getting the truck running I decided to do a 4wd swap and get rid of the ba. I got an ax15 out of a 98 along with the transfer case. so I pulled my motor and tranny painted the engine bay put it all back together go to start it and guess what it doesn't start I check my cps .1 volts. so I change it go to start it and same thing. The same out come for the next 3 sensors. after this I get one from napa drill to one hole larger install it and I get .3, finally I order a mopar one. install it get an output voltage of .1. I find it hard to believe I got 5 sensors that are failed not including the one that I had which was the one it had prior to removal. is it possible that the ax15 bell housing pulled the cps just a lil farther from the flywheel causing a weak output? I'm at a loss here, I have gone over grounds those are good and I have the correct flywheel. I'm either gonna start feeding my flywheel cps in hopes of getting it as close as possible to increase voltage or I'm gonna get rid of the renix and go ho, standalone, or chevy 350. I would really like to keep the renix in there considering its all back together. any ideas as what my issue is.

Which CPS did you get?  

 

For the 89 Renix or for the 98 AX15?  

 

S/B for the 89 Renix

 

^^^ What he said. If you used the CPS that was with the "new" transmission, and if that's what you bought for replacements -- it couldn't work. They are different sensors and they work on different priciples. Totally not compatible.

The HO CPS totally won't plug in the Renix harness either.

 

If you can't figure it out, there is always THIS option.

I called hesco they don't have that part in stock he has no idea if it will be back in stock. Honestly every time I called hesco I have not had a good experience either.

 

If you know where I can get one or if anyone has one they can part with please let me know.

Yeah, not much call for the Renix CPS relocation kit anymore. Advance Adapters used to sell them too. Looks like they're only available for the 91 and up HO engines now.  One of your original options was to go HO - that's what I'd do instead of trying to find obsolete Renix stuff.  horse2.gif

Buying an MJ is never a mistake.  The months it's down as you try and make it work in complete frustration is a right of passage.  I spent 7 months tinkering with mine and replacing half of it before I ever drove it. 

When I did my CPS and my AX-15, I drilled the one hole out larger and also "converted" it to a high altitude CPS , which moved the pickup closer to that larger hole,and then pushed it down toward the flywheel while I tightened the bolts.  I get a consistent .57V even now (two years later)  Before that I generally got about a .36V

Impulse, when you swapped in the AX-15 to your 88, did you have to do that CPS hack just to get it running or to get it running better? Was it necessary because of an AX-15 bell housing difference?

It actually ran when I first put it together, and then I decided to do the two mods afterward.  The truck would start up and run fine even when it was getting .36 Volts, but it would take a bit longer to crank over before it finally fired.  I also am using a non chrysler CPS, a Standard Motor Products unit.

I never tested with the BA-10 as the trans swap was one of the first things I did to the truck after getting it.  The input shaft bearing was toast, so it warranted an upgrade.  Only after that did I start working out other issues with the truck.  I do know that I never had a problem with starting the truck before or after the swap.  The only reason I even replaced the CPS in it was due to accidentally damaging it.
