I got so lucky!

My soon to be wife has been out of town this week for training. We are getting married Saturday and have been miserable without each other. I have never been a sappy guy but this woman brings a totally different person out of me.

I have asked her a thousand times why I was the lucky one, why she picked me, why? While she was gone she put her thoughts on paper and handed me this tonight.

I got teary eyed, she's my one and I am so thankful she took a chance on me.

Babe, when you read this always remember, I am the lucky one! I love you Stephanie!

When I say “I love you”… I want you to know and feel this.

When I say “I love you” I mean all of you, just as you are. I love your silliness and your playfulness, how easily we can just laugh at ourselves and at life. I love your courage and your strength. I love your jealousy and insecurity. I love your (sometimes painful) honesty. I love how you walk, you talk and take responsibility for your own “$#!&.” I love your willingness to face your fears and grow.

I love who you are deep down- the stubborn, intelligent, fierce, witty, silly, proud, honorable, loving man and Marine that you are.

When I say “I love you,” I mean I trust you. I respect you. I admire you. I adore you.

When I say “I love you,” I mean that I’m sorry. I’m sorry for every time I take you for granted. I’m sorry for every time I’m too busy, too distant, too self-absorbed to make time for you. I’m sorry for every time I fall short of being the partner you deserve.

When I say “I love you,” I mean my life is better with you in it. I’m a better woman because of you. The more I come to know you, the more I want to know. I miss you when you’re not around. I’m so thankful for every moment we’re together- always wanting more time with you.

When I say “I love you,” I mean I want to be the one you turn to when you’re hurting. I want to be the one who listens. I want to hold you in my arms. I want to take care of you. I want to give you something to hold on to, something to anchor you in this constantly changing world.

When I say “I love you,” I really mean you’re damn handsome, whether you’re in your dress blues or all dirty, sweaty and greasy in a holey shirt and shorts. Sometimes it catches me off guard and takes my breath away.

When I say “I love you,” I mean that I want you. From the first time you touched me, I felt a connection- an electricity I’ve never known. I have longed for you- for your touch, your embrace, your kiss. Like no one else can, you awaken the woman in me, the passion, the hunger and lust.

I want to make a home and family with you. I want you as my partner, my lover, my closest friend. I want to wake up next to you each morning and you beside me, surrounding me when I close my eyes at night. So the next time I grab you, wrap my arms around you, pull you close, kiss you and look you in the eye and say “I love you”, what I really mean is:

Here I am- Mind, Body and Soul. Sinner and Saint. Lover and Fool. All of my love and all of my baggage- all of me. Here I am with open arms.

I see you- father, son, brother, lover, friend. All of your light and all of your darkness.

The Marine and the boy- all of you.

I want you, all of you. You and only you, just as you are.
