mikekaz1
so my MJ doesn't have factory air but my parts truck does. its set up for r12 as its an '88. now I know I can get the o ring retro kit for r134. BUT my main question is has anyone tried the "NEW" legal R12A refrigerant? its suppose to be a direct swap with r12. and have similar COLDER properties to r12 than r134. HOrnbrod
I haven't tried it yet, but might the next time I need to recharge since my R12 stash is gone now.
Megadan
R12A is just a propane based hydrocarbon refrigerant (which means flammable). If you search you will see people who either love it or hate it. From what I know, it operates at lower pressures from R12, so following charge instructions for said refrigerant would be key to optimum operational efficiency. mikekaz1
I was looking it up, doesn't sound like a half bad alternative, at a lower cost then a retrofit also. and to branch off the flammable part, I think I read something about a 1300 degree flashpoint which I would think to be about double any expected temps anyways
mikekaz1
http://www.amazon.com/RED-TEK-R12a-Refrigerant-Recharge/dp/B00DJDYORU $70 not bad
DaveJ33P
I'm experimenting with R152a in my '99 Cherokee. I got the idea from here: http://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/c-charging-easy-cheap-safe-alternative-refrigerant-964688/ I discovered my compressor is bad, so I don't have a definitive apprasial yet. zomeizter
Interesting stuff here, too bad I just completed my retro to 134a, update us with how that stuff works out...
Katzer
I just used enviro-safes r-12,134a substitute. It is cools well. Doesnt turn it into an icebox but it works. I would use it again.
zomeizter
Funny you say that, I guess my conversion went very well because my cab does become an "ice box". I have to keep the blower fan on low, even in stop and go traffic in town. All new parts and flushing make a big difference...
mikekaz1
I'm doing a full parts install as mine isn't AC optioned. So on that note are the electronics also plug and play? Or should I just use a toggle switch?
Katzer
It won't be plug and play because the control on your dash doesn't have AC on it. You will have to source a unit from the scrap yard.
mikekaz1
well i know that obviously, i guess my real question would be are the fuse/relay connections factory wired to work with the addition of the dash controls and equipment? or is there still intermediate control wires/connections missing
