mikekaz1 Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 1991 mj. wipers work... kinda slow... but they work every time. when i got the truck the wiper fluid didnt work. did a motor swap and suddenly they began to work again, tried recently and now they don't work. applied direct power to pump and it works fine but nothing when twisting the multi-function switch. checked "wiper fuse and thats ok. but still no worky. how is power applied through the multi-function switch? are there any control boxes it goes through? also side note but relevant... my highbeams work but the indicator does not.... which is also controlled through that multi-function switch... changed bulb in dash and still nothing. . any idea on this? any one else experience this? tugalo Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 the washer control wiring goes thru the connector on the back of the fuse block. Tthe connector on the engine side of the firewall is filled with a black weatherproofing goop that sometimes seeps into the contacts and insulates them from each other, blocking power. Check for 12VDC at the motor and then check it on the output side of the wiper delay module. If you have power coming from the module, but no power at the motor, chances are that your problem is in the firewall fuse block connector. it is a 2 part connector with a bolt in the center. remove the plastic dust covers, loosen the bolt, and separate the halves of the connector. I believe the upper half of the connector must be removed first but i am not sure. one half of the connector holds the other half captive. Once both halves are removed, clean out the goop, clean the contacts, reconnect, and test. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

HOrnbrod Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Before doing anything else, pull out and bypass the delay module. They occasionally go bad and won't pass traffic. Anyway, when I got home I checked. Plenty of fluid, the pump works, no visible cracks or leaks in the tubing, but I look under the truck and there's a huge puddle of fluid. I followed the stream up, but I can't figure out where the leak is. Seems to be from behind the top of the firewall. I pulled the rubber grommet the washer line goes through all dry. Pulled the wipers and the plate under them and everything is dry under there. As near as I can tell the fluid is leaking out at the weld under the drivers side hood hinge and traveling along the weld to the top of the fender, then leaking to the ground.
