HOrnbrod
You should invest in an Electrical Factory Service Manual specific to the year of your truck, whatever that is. There's an 88 electrical manual you can download HERE.
Eagle
"Reset the ignition"? I have an '87, two '88s, an '88 XJ, and an '89 XJ. I haven't yet encountered anything in the ignition or starter circuit to "reset."
Knucklehead97
My truck had an intermittent starting problem for months. It was the starter. The solenoid clicked and everything but the starter motor itself was to wore out to crank the truck unless it was in a certain position. I don't know what turning the headlights on has to do with the truck shutting off. But, the starter is very easy to take off and take to an auto parts store to have tested just to rule that out of the cranking problem.
cruiser54
Is the starter covered in oil from leaky oil filter adapter seals?
