Wheel Lug Pattern

Recommended Posts

Older? Sigh. Older would be the CJ and early FSJ's 5x5.5 or the 6x5.5 of the later FSJ's. Whippersnappers... lol.

The XJ/MJ/YJ/ZJ/TJ/KJ/KK/MK all use the 5 x 4.5" (5x114.3) lug pattern. I am not sure but I am 50/50 that the WJ went to 5x5 ( CONFIRMED: WJ = 5x5) and the WK & JK are for sure 5x5. I am not sure what the Fiat Dart KL 200 Cherokee station wagon is but rumor has it that they have an unusual hub size & bolt pattern of 5x110mm x 5x114.3 mm.

Hey guys, do any of you know if the Comanche's lug pattern is the same as most other Jeep models?

Thanks, Ryan

What do you mean by "most other Jeep models"? Jeep has used a lot of different bolt patterns over the years.

The CJs had a 5-on-5-1/2 pattern, IIRC. The old Grand Wagoneers and J-trucks had a 6-bolt pattern. The XJ, MJ, YJ, TJ and the Liberty were all 5-on-4-1/2. The WJ Grand Cherokee (beginning in 1999) went to 5-on-5, I believe. I have no idea what any of the current Jeep offerings are, but I doubt they are the same as the XJ and MJ.

You miss read....I Wrote "Older TJ ( I don't know when it changed)".....refering only to the TJ line......thinking they might have changed to 5 on 5 with the newer

Thanks for the table hornbrod, that tells me they won't fit, thanks for the info.  One thing I wish was the same on all vehicles.  Seems like it would be fine to use the same bolt pattern on all light duty trucks and SUVs.

Too easy. Makes too much sense. Yet they killed the 4.0L engine in favor of using a universal, cross-platform V6 engine. Sheesh..

And I'm surprised to see in Hornbrod's chart that after moving the Libby to 5x5, they went back to 5x4.5 for the Patriot/Compass (but, of course, they had to use a different center hub diameter).

No version of the Libby is 5x5. I currently run 2005 KJ Liberty take-offs on my MJ and I replaced those steelies on my KJ with 2008 KK Liberty alloys. I don't know where that 5x5 rumor started but a quick trip over to tirerack.com, discount wheel warehouse.com, lostjeeps.com, jeep Kj country, or dozens of other sites will show it is false as well.

I was trying to be funny with the "old"stuff. To many of us nothing made in the 90's can be called old..lol. BTW there was only 1 design of the TJ/TJU. It was built from '97-'06 and was 5x4.5 the entire run. It was replaced for '07 by the 5x5 JK. Both were called Wrangler. The previous Wrangler was the 5x4.5 '87-'95 YJ which replaced the 5x5.5 '45-'86 CJ. You might be using TJ when you mean Wrangler

Isn't that sort of like saying "You might be using MJ when you mean Comanche?" All TJs are Wranglers, but not all Wranglers are TJs.

As Stated above......my YJ is a wrangler......as is a new JK......to clear it up for you when I replied to the original post I should have written:

YJ XJ Older TJ ( I don't know if they continued to use the 4.5 x 5 pattern when they started offering 16" wheels in later years)......Gooogle is your best friend

Then what is the difference between an"older" TJ and a "newer" TJ? The TJ had a relatively short run with no real changes. What is the dividing line between your mythical definitions? Did your google give you a breakdown of the old and new versions of the same vehicle? See below for the revised response to the edited post above

Too bad I didn't quote your first version- but from after the edit: if your contention is that a TJ is old before the 16" wheel option ( 16's were never standard but an option or part of a package) and new after why would on optional tire size indicate a new pattern and why would such a minor change merit a "new" designation? It wouldn't but sometimes when backpedaling any straw appears large. There would be no need to clear anything up for anyone if you knew what you were talking about in the first place instead of creating mythical TJ model breaks were none exist. Google is the friend of those who do not know what they are talking about. Memory is the friend of those of us who do

Of course it is not the same thing. All MJ's ARE Comanches where as you state all Wranglers are not TJ's. You can use TJ to refers to a 2006 Wrangler but not a 1995 or 2014 Wrangler. You can use MJ & Comanche interchangeably for the entire production run.

Conversely, All MJs are Comanches and all XJs are Cherokees. But ... not all Cherokees are XJs. Aside from the fact that we now have a new ... something ... bearing the name Cherokee, for export purposes the vehicle we know as the Liberty has always been called the Cherokee. (Yes, I've seen them with my own eyes, in my wife's native country.)

However, what you wrote was

You might be using TJ when you mean Wrangler

He might indeed, but since all TJs are Wranglers, how could there be any confusion? On the other hand, if someone writes "Wrangler," it could be a YJ or a TJ or ...
