Mounting/dismounting Tires On Aluminum Rims/wheels

Recommended Posts

I've got two sets of aluminum rims that I will need to change tires on. When changing tires on aluminum rims once before, they became scratched. Anyone have any advice or know of tire tools that won't damage aluminum when mounting/dismounting tires on aluminum rims?

my mistake Id I didnt read it correctly, the tire shop should have a plastic insert that rides on the bead part of the wheel and it keeps the wheels from getting scratched,,,,I scratched a wheel on accident myself and thats how I found out about that "insert".

Ah. No see I do tire swaps at home. I have a tire machine, but the dismounting part of it doesn't work, so bars are used to manually break beads and pull tires. I need a plastic coated bar or something. Thanks though for the info.
