How to trim

What's the best way to trim fenders on a MJ? planing on putting on some TJ flares.

I've been using a Dremmel with a heavy duty cutoff wheel. They don't last long but I get a more precise cut than with a reciprocating saw and blade.

Air body saw. MY favorite tool on the jeep. I would place the flares on the side where you want them to sit and trace it onto the fender. TJ flares have a lip on them you have to cut off as well so they flush mount. Take your time and good luck. 8)

I run the TJ flares on the rear of my MJ and I have to say it was the most annoying/frustrating part of my build. They are a PAIN to get them to look decent. Lots of trimming on the flare itself and they don't like to contour the body of the MJ rear very good.

 

As for trimming, I did the same thing we do when we trim on the XJ's, I cut and fold.

I had planned on running rear TJ flares on the front but after so much cussing at doing the rears I decided I could deal with the factory flares for awhile. Maybe I'll get to doing them one of these days... :roll:

Stock flares will fit with some work and look good.

There are no gaps they are complete filled and looks good.

I have raised my flares as much as possible, as I have posted before.

Here is a picture of the inner fender after raising the flares with 33" tires.

I cut the front of the inner fender for a dramatic increase in room.

My goal is to get as much uptravel as possible as part of my build.

I still need to do some more welding, then clean up and paint it.

Here is a picture the inner fender. I gained 4" or more of clearance.

There is now more room in front the tire then from the rear or above. I should be able to stuff the tire about 3" more and still be able to turn from lock to lock. As part of my build the front axle will be moved forward 2"-3". I will be adding an inner wheelwell liner.

 

Here is the cut and raised rear fenders/flares my '95 I parted out. 5" of lift with 33" tires.

well the front was easy just got to add the TJ Flares But the rear was something esle I cut about 2 in off and know i gotta weld the rear back togather since the two peices of bed came apart. What kind of brackets or hardware you some you guys use I'm going to use stainles steel nuts and bolts

TNT, have you test stuffed the suspension with the front cut like that? Does it allow for much more uptravel?
